Making big strides in our mission

Rachio began with a mission of watering efficiently and wasting less. Our founder, Chris Klein, got tired of seeing sprinklers watering in the rain (during a drought, no less!) and decided to do something about it.

We’ve come a long way since inventing the first smart sprinkler controller in 2013, and each year we treat Earth Day as a time to reflect on the progress we’ve made with water savings. It’s also a great time to look at where we’re going and to evaluate other conservation goals on our horizon.

A new water savings milestone

We’re thrilled to announce that as of Earth Day 2024, the Rachio community has SAVED OVER 200 BILLION GALLONS OF WATER together. By making the switch from outdated sprinkler timers (which have relied on the same tech for decades) to automatic smart watering, our customers save more water every year while keeping plants healthy and hydrated. Each smart watering run, automatic Rain Skip, and Valve Monitoring Alert adds up to increased savings.

In a world where up to 50% of water used outdoors is wasted due to inefficient watering practices, we’re proud of every gallon of water saved. As a community of water savers, we’re continually making progress on our goal of saving THREE TRILLION gallons of water by 2030. Thank you to every Rachio user who has joined us on this journey!

We’re always adding more features to the free Rachio App so our users can gain more insight into their yard’s performance. New this month, users can connect a Davis AirLink Air Quality Monitor to their account for exclusive features like air quality notifications, forecasts and more.
