K-Rain adjustable nozzle FAQ

You should measure the average distance between your sprinkler heads and match that to the coverage radius of the three variants. Each of the nozzle variants is adjustable for a given range: Green nozzles offer a small radius (13'-15'), blue is medium (16'-20') and red is large (26'-30').

Usually, none! Try starting a short Quick Run for the zone in question and grab a riser head when it pops up. Unscrew the old nozzle head with your other hand. If the old nozzle is seized, you may need a pair of pliers and/or vise grips but be careful not to damage the riser. You can then thread the K-Rain adjustable nozzle onto the male-threaded riser and hand-tighten it.

Next, you can modify the flow rate and angle adjustments by hand, no special tools are needed!

Rachio recommends replacing all nozzles in a given zone. The high-efficiency nozzles apply water slower than traditional nozzles so it can be difficult to build schedules for zones with nozzles that have different precipitation rates.

A K-Rain rotary nozzle is a female-threaded nozzle. It fits most spray bodies because most pop-up risers are male-threaded. (Toro and Irritrol are the only major brands with female-threaded risers.) The rest of them have male threads.

To check and see if your risers are compatible, start a Quick Run for a few seconds on a zone with nozzles you would like to replace. When the riser pops up, grab it and twist the nozzle on top of the riser. If the riser has threads, then K-Rain nozzles are compatible.

If you are on a municipal water system then it is unlikely that you will need to clean nozzle filters. If you have another water source like a well then you will want to clean the nozzle filter baskets occasionally to clear debris and ensure proper flow.

If you have a zone with K-Rain and another type of nozzle then you will have to choose one or the other in your app. We recommend choosing the one that is most prevalent in your zone.

Please note, the precipitation rate of these K-Rain nozzles is 0.54 in/hr, which is about three times slower than typical fixed heads at 1.5 in/hr. So if you choose K-Rain nozzles in the app, your run times may be three times longer than necessary for the other nozzles in your zone, or vice versa.

In certain circumstances, it may be helpful to edit Advanced zone settings to update the Nozzle Inches Per Hour for a particular zone. Please use caution when editing Advanced zone settings as these changes can dramatically alter our watering time recommendations.
