MySoil Test Kit FAQ

MySoil was developed out of the need for a more accurate and simple soil test. You collect a sample, send it back and get human-readable results quickly. No need for an advanced agronomy degree.

Rachio and MySoil are excited to work together to bring you simple and fast soil test results. Before you send your sample to MySoil, follow the Soil Health instructions in your Rachio App to register your kit with MySoil and Rachio in just a few minutes. Collect your sample and send it to MySoil. When your results are ready, we'll send you a push notification so you can review the results and fertilizer recommendations.

This process can be repeated for different areas of your yard (grass vs. garden beds) and at different times of the year (spring vs. fall) so you can provide the right nutrients at the right time.

The easiest way to get a sample is using the soil probe included in the Starter Pack. This can be reused in the future for other test kits and to check soil moisture.

Whether you use the soil probe or a hand trowel, collect soil from 5-7 separate locations/ spots within your desired testing area. The soil should be collected from a depth of about 6 inches. A shallower depth is ok if the soil is too hard.

Place the soil samples into the MySoil box, a clean bag or bucket and mix it up, breaking up large chunks. Some plant debris is ok, but pull out any big pieces.

Using the provided scoop, collect one level scoop of the soil and add it to the jar containing DI water and the nutrient adsorbing capsule. Do not dump the water out of the jar. Tightly secure the lid and you're ready to send it to MySoil.

We recommend sampling on an annual basis at a minimum. Early Spring is the best sampling time and additional sampling for mid-season performance and during the fall can be helpful.

Early spring annual sampling helps you set your fertilizer and soil amendment program for the season by selecting the proper pH adjustment and fertilizer products. This ensures your soil is properly amended to release critical nutrients to match plant demands. The result will be greater stress tolerance, rich color, higher yields, and more nutrient-dense food.

Soil tests can be completed any time your ground isn't frozen and/or you haven't applied any fertilizer in the last 30 - 45 days.

Soil samples can be taken in wet soil. The moisture level in your soil will not affect soil test results, however, when sampling wet soil there are some aspects to consider.

Wet soil can affect the consistency of the collection depth of your soil sample core. The core needs to be a consistent depth for each one collected across the sample area. If cores are fluctuating in depth/length, wait for soil to dry a bit or discard ones that are not the same. Sample depth being close (within an inch or so) is fine and expected.

Wet soil is difficult to composite (mix together) which is an important step in the sampling process. If wet soils have been successfully collected, they can be allowed to air-dry for a day so they can be better mixed.

Results are typically available within 1-2 business days of MySoil receiving your sample. Processing times may vary based on sample load and time of year. If you purchased your sample from Rachio and registered your product, we'll send you a push notification when your results are ready.
