S'mores are a campfire classic, as well as a right of passage at many summer camps and backyard barbecues. Want to capture the campground magic in your own backyard and create sweet marshmallow sandwiches that will leave everyone wanting more?
Here are our top tips for making the tastiest s'mores at home!
- Start with the good stuff. Like any tasty treat, starting with quality ingredients is key. For traditional s’more, go for graham crackers, jumbo marshmallows, and milk chocolate for layers of deliciousness.
- Mix it up! Try something new by experimenting with creative additions like cookie butter or Nutella. We’re a big fan of substituting Reese’s peanut butter cups for the milk chocolate, but there are nearly endless combinations to choose from.
- Get the right tools for the job. Extendable metal forks (think the kind for roasting hotdogs) are easy to adjust. But if you’re using what you have on hand, a long and pointy sticks works just as well! Just be sure to avoid getting bark in your finished marshmallows.
- Keep an even heat source. The aim here is to get the marshmallows close enough to the heat that they will roast evenly (we’re partial to a nice golden brown) without getting singed. Try to position them next to glowing coals or small flames, and avoid the bigger and brighter flames (these tend to get too hot and usually result in charring). Of course, if you like your marshmallows on the burnt side, we won’t judge (much).
- Upgrade your campfire. Don’t have a campfire setup in your yard, or want something portable to easily move around the yard? You can snag a BioLite FirePit+ on Rachio Market and enjoy smokeless s’mores anytime!
